I use to have a detailed page about my family, listing all my brothers and sisters, when and where they were born, where they went to school, their husbands or wives and children. But then someone sent an email to me pointing out that all this information published on the web can lead to idenity theft. So I've had to rewrite it removing most of the info.
I'm the oldest of five, all born within five years of each other. I have two sisters and two brothers. All went to college, most have advanced degrees. Three of the four are married and have a total of seven children of their own. My oldest nephew is married and has a new baby. That makes my younger sister a grandmother.
My parents were both around 20 years old when I was born. They were divorced when I was 8. Which means that my mom was on her own at 28 with five kids ages 8 to 3. Mmmm, memories of surplus bulk canned powdered eggs and peanut butter (ADC you know). But as my father was an alcoholic, it was better than the alternative. My mom and step-father were married when I was 10. They divorced when I was in college.
I also have a half brother whom I've never met. He's only a month younger than my middle brother. Check out my amusing anecdotes for more info.
In 1970 my father married my step-mother and moved to Alaska. We kept in contact for a year or two. Then my family did not hear from them for about 6 years. When I was about to graduate from high school I gave them a call out of the blue and then that summer I spent six weeks with them in Tanana. After that we kept in contact, but the relationship was more of distant relatives. My father died in 1996.
As the kids were becoming adults and moving out, my mom went to college and received a degree in library sciences. She is currently a bookkeeper for a Catholic charity retirement home.
